My name is Lara Hernandez. Welcome to my blog where I talk about airport management, maintenance and automation. I have been working as a controller for over 10 years and I am ready to show you the inside of an airport.
The global aviation industry continues to grow rapidly, but consistent and sustainable profitability is elusive. If you’ve ever travelled in the last few years, you know that airports are always busy during peak season, no one likes to wait in line before a holiday, all you want to do is relax, not worry that you might miss your flight… So, convenience and efficiency are a priority for passengers. But if seamless travel is in high demand, why are some airports slower than other industries like retail to adopt automated solutions?
Unlike retail, airports are part of important national infrastructure. As such, they may be more conservative about adopting new digital technologies. There are other factors that may contribute to this attitude. Regulations differ from country to country, security requirements need to be taken into account, and there is also the challenge of implementing new technologies on a large scale.
It would be an idea to build more runways and terminals, but despite space constraints, this is not a sustainable solution in the long run. Instead, airports are increasingly turning to automated technology to help cope with these challenges and improve the passenger experience.
