AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference
Originally the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Aeroacoustics Conference, now cosponsored by the Confederation of European Aerospace Societies (CEAS).
Aircraft Noise and Emissions Reduction Symposium (ANERS)
Sponsored by the Association Aéronautique et Astronautique de France (AAAF) and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
Acoustical Society of America
The Acoustical Society of America holds annual meetings. Aircraft and airport noise is a major concern of papers presented at the annual meetings. The society's website has abstracts of papers from meetings since 1992.
University of California Symposium on Aviation Noise and Air Quality
These annual symposia are intended for individuals with responsibility for the management, technical implementation, and/or legal analysis of airport noise programs, public information officers, planners, and community affairs professionals, as well as the general public. The program began in 1985 and until 2007 was managed by the Technology Transfer Program of the Institute for Transportation Studies, University of California, Berkeley. Beginning in 2007 it is managed by the UC Davis Air Quality Research Center.
Inter-Noise
This annual conference of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering, begun in 1974, is an important forum for expert papers on airport noise problems. Papers cover noise science, health effects, psychological testing, abatement programs, etc. For information on ordering papers, see Proceedings, 1972 - 1996. See on-line programs and proceedings for:
National Organization to Insure a Sound-Controlled Environment (N.O.I.S.E.)
N.O.I.S.E. is an organization of representatives of local governments primarily from jurisdictions that do not own the airport by which they are impacted. It holds an annual conference with a variety of technical panels and workshops.
Noise as a Public Health Problem
This series of international congresses, sponsored by the International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise, is a rich source of reports on the health effects of aircraft noise. Nine topics are covered by these meetings: noise-induced hearing loss, noise and communication, nonauditory physiological effects induced by noise, influence of noise on performance and behaviour, effects of noise on sleep, community responses to noise, noise and animals, effects of noise combined with other agents, and regulations and standards. Congresses are held every five years; the first was held in 1968 in Dubrovnik. The next will be held in 2008 in Connecticut. The following proceedings are available:
1978 -- III. International Congress on Noise as a Public Health Problem (Freiburg), J.V. Tobias, G. Jansen, and W.D. Ward, eds., American Speech Language Hearing Assn., Report 10, Rockville, Maryland.
1983 -- Noise as a Public Health Problem (Milan), G. Rossi, ed., Edizioni Tecniche a cura del Centro Ricerche e Studi Amplifon, Milan.
1988 -- Noise as a Public Health Problem: New Advances in Noise Research (Stockholm), B. Berglund, U. Berglund, J. Karlsson, and T. Lindvall, eds., Swedish Council for Building Research, Stockholm.
1993 -- Noise as a Public Health Problem: Proceedings of the 6th International Congress (Nice), M. Vallet, ed., Institut National de Recherche sur les Transport et leur Securite, Bron, France.
1998 -- Noise Effects '98: 7th International Congress on Noise as a Public Health Problem (Sydney, Aus.), N. Carter and R.F.S. Job, eds., Noise Effects '98 Pty., Sydney.
2003 -- 8th International Congress on Noise as a Public Health Problem (Rotterdam)
2008 -- To be held in Connecticut.
Society of Automotive Engineers
Despite its name, the society embraces all modes of transportation, including aviation. The society has an Aircraft Noise Committee. Annual meetings of the society are an important source of papers on aircraft noise measurement issues; abstracts of past papers on aircraft noise can be retrieved using the search engine on the society's home page.
