Thousands File Lawsuits Against Israeli Airport over Noise

DECEMBER 21, 2000

The Airports Authority has appealed to Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein to deal with the thousands of lawsuits against the construction of the Ben-Gurion Airport 2000 project. Residents in the area have filed 5,000 suits, citing a drop in the value of their homes totaling NIS 3 billion as a result of the project.

The damage, they claim, stems principally from the added noise generated by increased activity in the enlarged airport. According to the Airports Authority, the Interior Ministry met with council leaders of the region last week and legal advisers on this matter.
